MARKUS LÜPERTZ - SCHWARZ-WEISS

About the exhibition

Dear friends of Art Affair Gallery,

As we embark on this new year, we are thrilled to kick-start it with an exhibition featuring Markus Lüpertz showcasing his latest works on paper. This exhibition is a culmination of the artist’s profound exploration of light’s impact on his sculptures within his art studio.

Markus Lüpertz’s inspiration stems from his observation that “there is no life without shadows.” Intrigued by the figures cast by shadows in his studio, Lüpertz delves into sketching these ephemeral forms. The artworks presented in this exhibition are a testament to Lüpertz’s fascination with both light and its absence.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are a series of individual figures rendered through the unique Carborundum print technique. This method employs a paste of carborundum powder to create a textured surface on a metal plate, resulting in prints with a distinctive, painterly appearance. Each artwork produced through this technique is limited to five per motif and features captivating figures such as Minotaurs and Harlequins.

Furthermore, the exhibition boasts strictly limited editions, including the XXL format woodcuts of Ravens measuring 160 x 160 cm. This motif, continuously explored by the artist, carries profound mythological significance. Throughout history, ravens have been associated with wisdom and guidance, utilized by gods and kings alike. Yet, over time, these creatures became associated with misfortune, embodying the notion of wanderers between worlds.

Due to limited capacity, we kindly request that you register your attendance by phone at 0941 – 599 95 91 or via email at [email protected].
