Mel Ramos (July 24, 1936, in Sacramento – October 14, 2018, in Oakland) was one of the founders of the Pop Art movement in the USA and the last surviving Pop Art artist.
Mel Ramos was one of the first-generation Pop Art artists in the USA. His style evolved over time. The Pop Art artist studied art at Sacramento College. In the early 1960s, Ramos began creating series of paintings initially inspired by comic strips, notable for their vibrant and colorful palette.
Starting from comic books, he later developed a blend with surrealism. At the same time, there emerged a connection with oversized consumer products. Mel Ramos’ art encapsulates the influence of body culture from magazines and consumerism.
